Have you ever tried to imagine the book that would have come out of a collaboration between Shirley Jackson and Patricia Highsmith?

I'm not sure if they would have gotten along while writing, tho.
They probably wouldn't. But the results are still worth imagining.

Such creeped-out relationships. Such evil towns(folk). So much psychological build-up. So much tension. So much destruction and just generally unimaginable horror. So many snails ...

Ha!
To be fair, I currently find it hard to imagine a book with a more evil streak to it than this one. It is very unsettling, especially because there are no supernatural elements in it at all.

Yep. Just imagine, your next door neighbour could be like Victor and that´s what makes this book so scary.

A lot of her books have had these seemingly normal people in that have turned out to be rather deranged. It's definitely the realism that makes them so scary.
