Oh wow, this all looks delicious! I'm sorry the movie got postponed, but I'd say the food and books more than make up for it!

I'll be interested in what you make of all of these books -- I've read the Camus and Angela Carter, as well as the title story of "The Yellow Wallpaper" (like you), but none of Perkins Gilman's other fiction ... all of the other books have been sitting on my TBR for a minor eternity.

Haggis and marmelade -- AND ice cream? (Shudders violently.)

The Camus is a re-read, and The Yellow Wallpaper is the only story by Perkins Gilman I have read. I meant to read more by her but haven't gotten around to it. I hoped that having a physical book of her works sitting on the shelf would help with that.

As for the haggis & marmalade ice cream, I was too shaken to even take a picture, but when I told my friends they also went to look at it, then came back (empty handed) shaking their heads in disbelief. It's just not right, is it?
Well, I'm rather glad you didn't take a picture. I mean, I still get woozy just thinking of all those jell-o / aspic pictures during 24 Tasks ...

Yeah, ikr??
Who ever came up with a task that said "show us the weirdest use jello you've come across"??

Thank you.
Yum!

I wrote about The Bloody Chamber a couple of weeks ago. I was re-reading it for the first time since college, and found it just as stunning as I did the first time around.

The Plague I read for a French Lit course way back in college. I remember liking it more than I did The Stranger, but I can't recall much else.

The Yellow Wallpaper is a great read, but I haven't read anything else by Gilman.

The Camus and Perkins Gilman are re-reads (well, I've read PG's Yellow Wallpaper). I also liked The Plague better than The Stanger.

Recipes are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. I also always modify recipes.

Is there any other way to cook? :) I don't even stick to recipes when I'm baking.
Elentarri's Book Blog 3 years ago
Neither. The cake batter ALWAYS needs more milk. ;)
BrokenTune 3 years ago
Ok, that is encouraging. I'm glad to know yous are also defying the limitations of the recipe.

It all ends badly if I go off the recipe. Or if someone talks to me while I'm cooking. Explicit instructions and total concentration are required if I'm to make something that doesn't: a.) burn the house down or b.) taste like a feral cat smells.

Now, cooking while trying to hold a conversation is a challenge. I struggle with that one, too.

That soup does look tasty. Thanks for sharing!

As TA had mentioned above, the Haggis and marmalade ice cream reminded me of the jello salad episode all over again. I'm sure some people feel certain combinations of food are great, but... *shudder*

On the other hand: Creme Brulee Ice Cream!!!
BrokenTune 3 years ago
Let's swiftly forget about the Haggis ice cream and the damned jello, and move on to the Creme Brulee ... it is one of my favourite flavours at that particular ice cream shop. It is delicious, with quite a "deep" caramelised custard flavour.

I love, love, love Creme Brûlée, but I doubt I'm going to be able to forget about the haggis and marmalade any time soon. o_O

...and to think that you only have the mental image of that concoction... Now I'm glad I didn't take a photo to post on here.

I've just remembered there is ice-cream in the freezer. It's just plain vanilla though... because I end up sharing with the dogs. _/
