Oh, bummer! I bought this one a year or so ago, after it was listed for the Booker Prize, but haven't dived into it yet. The premise was intriguing, and I was hoping for something like Burial Rites by Hannah Kent.
I should have listed Burial Rites, too, even tho I didn't enjoy that book either. Quite similar. This one has quite a slow pace, tho, and I find it hard work to be interested in the story.
I loved Burial Rites, so maybe I will like it after all!
I have a feeling that there are elements of this story that will work better for you than for me.

Well, 30 pages further and the list of acts of exploitation has grown still. I may skip ahead to the trial part and skip most of the book altogether.
