I'm actually really enjoying the Parade's End books. Had a bit of a sleepness night last night and got quite into it. Ford's descriptions of life at the front and the stupidity of army supply policies were actually really gripping. It may have been the lack of sleep of course... ;)
I doubt it's only lack of sleep. Anyway, thumbs up to Mr. Ford ... even though I confess that it's precisely the prospect of a 3-book saga on WWI that's kept me shying away from this trilogy so far. Your experience with it so far really doesn't seem to bode well for your book club book, in any event!

Well, I may just have to power through the herring book next week. If I do, I'll share the experience with "a'body" here on BL. ;P

I do want to read The Silver Darlings. I really do, but it strikes as one of those books that has a time and place and with all "assigned reading" the time and place may not be now.
