Which one have you read? I only read some of the short stories before.
It was set on a penal colony. One of the prisoners was also the executioner. Can't remember the title, sorry.
Walter Fane was a real person:

Hm. The Walter Fane in this story is a bacteriologist in Hong Kong whose wife has an affair. (I have a feeling Fleming may have "been inspired" to write Quantum of Solace based on this story.) So, without knowing more about the real WF's background, ... not sure. Maybe they both liked the name.
I really enjoyed the movie but haven't read the novel.

I imagine the film would have been beautifully shot.
It is, and acted. China looks amazing. Perhaps you'd want to wait until you've read it all, but I recommend the movie if you can get hold of it.
