I do enjoy romance, and I am an evangelist for Patricia Wentworth's romantic subplots. In my not-particularly-humble-opinion, she does the romantic subplot better than any other golden age mystery writer, including Georgette Heyer. She's yards better at it than Christie - her romances are much more convincing that Christie's semi-coherent pairings (Katharine Grey/Derek Kettering, anyone).
The only downside to them, for me, is that they do shorten the suspect list.
