I know I'll sound like a philistine saying this, but that first stanza was entirely too effective for me; in my mind's eye, Venus' eyes did a Tales from the Crypt thing, something I'm certain Shakespeare was not aiming for.

(But yes, the poetry itself - aside from that startling imagery - is beautiful.)

LoL. I'm not sure this part had the effect that Will desired on me either. I cracked up laughing.

I don't think Shakespeare was being entirely serious with this. Have you read The Rape of Lucrece yet?

Btw, I'm not convinced either that this was a work of serious interpretation of the original story.
I think you'll see a big contrast in tone with Lucrece.
