I wonder how many scientists there are who at least at some point or other contemplated naming one of their kids Cloudina (only to have their spouses put down their feet firmly against it). It does sound like the sort of tempting "almost-first-name" thing that some academics seem to find near-impossible to resist ...

And it still would make for a better first name than some other choices that have been inflicted on kids.
Hah. Very true!

My sister-in-law nearly ended up with the name Gloudina Katerina (in a Dutch accent), fortunately her father was to rattled at her birth to remember to put the first part on the birth certificate and ended up spelling the name he did put on as Katherine. :D
Phew. Narrow miss ...!

Don't know - she doesn't use Katherine either. She uses Claudi, which isn't anywhere on her official documents. Not sure why.
Childhood nickname, preserving her father's original intentions (of sorts)?

Is that because fate cannot be stopped and her original "Gloudina" has found a way to through? ;P

...Also, Claudi, apart from being a short form of Claudia, could also be an abbreviation of Cloudina...
Just putting that out there.

I think she just chose it - not anything her parents called her. Who knows. I might ask if I remember.

Glad the book is working out.
