I should hope so! On the other hand, it would be so easy to get the character wrong and dismay readers with dumb humour.
I got about as far as this, too, before I collapsed into bed last night. It's very enjoyable indeed -- I definitely need to read more by Hare.

The only other Hare I've read was The Wind Blows Death. That one was fun, too. Very....twee... but in a good way. Definitely in the comfort read zone.

I noticed that this is a series. Are the books stand-alone or is it better to start with the first book and read through?
This one is a stand-alone -- though the author does have two other series, Francis Pettigrew and Inspector Mallett. But neither of those two detectives makes an appearance here.

That said, it's a really enjoyable read. Perfect for the season if you like Golden Age mysteries -- or Silver Age with a Golden Age feel (as this one is).
