Lovely food!

And oh no, office moving day. * Shudders *

As for the book, if this is your first read of "Beloved", do yourself a favor and read the print edition. I own the Toni Morrison audio, and much as I love the fact that she's reading her own book, there is a *lot* that gets lost in her rendition, however closely you listen, and which you'll only pick up on off the printed page. Might sound weird, but the book almost became a different creature for me in print than in the audio verson -- never mind that it's the author herself reading it.

Oh, I have the print edition also and dipped in and out of it while waiting for system updates and responses on today's project.
I suspected as much -- what I mean is, discard the audio entirely. Dipping in and out of the print version didn't do it for me ... but turning to it exclusively made a huge difference.

Oh, and re "office moving day"... we found no less than 6 fake Christmas trees at the back of a cupboard yesterday. I don't even know how that is possible, but one was hot pink so I am sure some of them got dumped there by HR.

Re Beloved, let's just say that my lack of enjoyment of the book is not entirely down to the audiobook. I tried to get into the print edition during HW bingo and it was not working for me at all. So, the audiobook actually seems to be an improvement.
The book takes a while to get into, that was absolutely my experience as well. There are layers and layers to unfold until the story even begins to come together -- but when it does ... well, just wait and see. Whichever version, just give it time.

Six fake Christmas trees?! Oh man. And never mind the hot pink one ... I mean, hot pink???

I really have no explanation for that either. I only know of one Christmas tree that we (the Legal Dept.) contributed, and that was a traditional green one. I have no idea where the other 5 came from...or indeed why we have been landed with them. :(
"We dump all of our other problems on the legal department, so hey, why not also dump our office junk on them"? :(
