Grumpy cat is perfect!

As Troy would probably say, "Well, it's Chuck Wendig, what did you expect?"

LOL yes. He probably would say that, and he would be right. Idioms and colloquialisms in common use frequently show up in Star Wars, but this is the first time I've come across one whose origin I know is rooted in racism, and I did foolishly expect better of Wendig and his publisher/editors.

Yeah... I'm not a fan of Chuck Wendig's writing, even really much of what he contributed to the White Wolf rule books so long ago. The first book in this series i gave up on a few chapters in because i simply could not make myself care about anyone in it. :/

On the other hand, I feel like an idiot for not registering the etimology of the phrase before literally right now. Thank you for bringing this up.

There are a bunch of reservations in my home state and I had at least one teacher in my school days who tried diligently to subvert the usual whitewashed histories. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I would have been able to make the connection on my own without that early influence. It sounds so innocuous on the surface. But then, a lot of casual racism does. *cue Admiral Ackbar "It's a trap!" soundbite*

Also, I freaking hate Chuck Wendig's writing style. I hope this trilogy is all the Star Wars he's ever allowed to write, because my book canon obsession always outweighs my hatred and overpowers my better judgment. Sigh.
