ha ha. Same here with The Thirteen Tale. I dislike the characters, and it fall into DNF pile. I fooled myself and put it back to TBR pile but I know it is unlikely that I would pick it up again. Why put yourself through yet another boring read? I hope this one turned out better.
I don't even know why I picked it up. Sometimes when I go to the library, I seem to leave my common sense in the car. At least this book has a more interesting premise than her other books.
I really didn´t like The Thirteenth Tale. I dislike these "Old woman is telling her mysterious life story to a young, but boring woman" kind of stories so much. And I don´t think I will pick up another Diana Setterfield book in the future.
I don't know why I keep picking them up, to be honest. Well-written doesn't always = enjoyable, but some part of my brain seems to think it does. But so far so good. I'm not bored yet.
LoL. And so soon after vicariously re-reading Thirteenth Tale fan-fiction with me (Morton's Distant Hours)? That library of your sounds like a magical place. ;)
Hahaha! If this one used that trope again I would be crying right now. But it's more in the same style as Bellman & Black, only less mind-numbingly dull (so far).
My local library *is* a magical place, bigger than you'd expect and reasonably well stocked and possibly cursed with a spell that makes patrons forget what they came for and walk out with random books they actually meant to avoid. ;)
I'm intrigued enough by the mystery that the slow pace isn't bothering me (yet), but the style is similar enough to Bellman & Black that I'm slightly worried this is also a slow plod to nowhere with no real resolution.

It's been a while but if I remember right, it picks up. Things certainly become clearer later on.
