I posted one about the Mount of Monte Cristo a while ago too, if you are interested. I think I'm going with the Penguin edition. I have some Penguins and Oxfords so may as well keep up the collection... and it helps that the Donougher tranlsation isn't bad.
Aaah -- that was it, yes! You're really putting a lot of research into the "classics in translation" thing ...

Well, if I'm going to buy the book, I want it to be something I will enjoy and hopefully re-read, so a decent translation is important since I'm useless at French.

I read the Denny Penguin Classics edition, quite a long time ago. Interesting that they have chosen to replace it.

It's still in publication. There are 2 tranlations available, but the Denny one is the only hardcover Penguin Les Mis. What is the Denny translation like (if you recall)? I'm wondering how well a 1500 page paperback is going to hold up to an actual read instead of just sitting on the shelf.
I had no issues with it as a translation and iirc reading it caused nothing worse than a bit of spine curvature.
