I pretty much have a Love/Hate relationship with excerpts. I did a lot of reading of them when the Buzzbooks YA edition came out and that was great - because you know you are just getting a teensy taste of what is to come and it's specifically to create a buzz.

But then there are the books that you are already eagerly anticipating and that can leave you feeling frustrated and empty - starting something there is no way to finish for a very long time.

I don't know - I like having the option to read or leave, but I always struggle to look away. :)

My willpower usually isn't the best, but when it comes to excerpts I do pretty good. I don't mind that they are out there for others to read though, since I can ignore them.

I've never read any of the excerpt books. It might make it easier, if I could immediately start the next one. But then I'd need to have something good waiting for when I got to the end.
I think I'm kind of in the middle. I use excerpts or the Amazon preview function if I'm deciding whether to buy/request/accept a book, and I find it extremely useful for that, but I don't read excerpts otherwise. Like, if I just come across one in a blog tour, nah. It feels like a waste of time to me because either I'm not interested in the book, or I am, and I'm going to read it, but I'll have half forgotten the excerpt by then and will just have to re-read it, so that time I spent reading in the first place was wasted.

If I could have access to the book immediately, I would be willing to read the excerpt as a final step in deciding whether to continue. I mostly dislike the pre-release excerpts (especially when it will be months and months before the book comes out.
