What's a Dewey 24-hr Readathon, and how do I sign up?

Dewey's 24-hour Readathon is a 24-hour extravaganza of people throughout the world (including a handful of us here at Booklikes) reading, blogging, and talking about books on social media for the SAME 24-hours. The history of this Readathon is at http://www.24hourreadathon.com/?page_id=49

To sign up, click the title of this post to go to the organizer's sign up page.

Do you have to read for all 24 hours? I work that day, but would love to participate as much as I can!

You do NOT have to read for all 24 hours (though some people try to and there are certain prizes that are only open to those who can/do read for all 24 hours). Many folks listen to Audiobooks if they can during parts of the day that they can't be reading an physical book or ebook.

In part it depends on where exactly the 24 hours fall in your part of the world, what your other responsibilities are and how young you are. I'm in the "gotta sleep at least a little" camp and in the same timezone as the organizers, which means it runs from 8 am to 8am for me, so I tend to set my goals by number of books instead of number of hours.

If you search tags for "Dewey" and "Readathon" you will find what people posed during the April 2016 spring edition of the Readathon. This should give you a better idea of what participating can look like.

Woo-hoo! I will sign up on Monday, but I am all for building a cheering squad here on BL. I prefer to update here rather than Twitter.
