I loved this as a teen and am afraid to reread it and tarnish the memory.

Well, if what I listed would tick you off now, you know you'd better not read it again... ^^;

I recently read this myself I'd read other Andrews books as a preteen and enjoyed them. I agree with you. The dad was horrible. I think liking these books at young age is mostly just the taboo factor.lol.

That's likely, yes. I read such books at the time because my mother had them, and she was more than happy lending me her novels in general, anyway. Maybe it made me feel like I was reading "adult stuff", instead of the "childish" books we had in middle school libraries (there was no marketed YA category at the time, so mostly we went from preteen stories to adult ones, without any real market for 13-18 year-old people).

V.C. Andrews was actually in the young adult section of our local library.

Okay... Why not... I don't know her other series so maybe they'd fit the description?...

I decided the same thing... I'm leaving my childhood favourites well enough alone.

A wise decision...

I think because the characters are teenager's. It was a pretty liberal library lol.
