Thanks for posting about Captain Marvel. I tend towards DC (I'm into the big three, especially Wonder Woman), but enjoy the Marvel movies for escapism. I am thinking of dipping my toes into Marvel, and may start with Captain Marvel since I tend to like my superheroines with their clothes on.
You're welcome. And, oh, this is great. Her and Rocket arguing about her cat is just fantastic!
How crap is that? who doesnt love female superhero's?!?!?!
Apparently men don't want hot women in spandex and/or leather.

That's the best reading of men in general ever.
yea i have to admit the stunning super heroines running around in slutty clothing while the get to stay modest does get a little tiring. but at least those women still get to kick butt - even if they might have the misfortune of showing the villain more than they intended O.O
its better than not having female super hero's at all.
And honestly the movies, and a lot of the recent comics have them more decent. Black Widow? Fully clothed. Mrs. Marvel was a little skimpy, but when she changes to Captain Marvel? Fully clothed. Even the new Mrs. Marvel is fully clothed while kicking ass.

And it's great that Avengers had Black Widow - but what about Wasp, who was a founding Avengers? She doesn't even seem to be in Ant-Man, and she was married to the original Ant-Man!

Anyway, I think the comics are doing an amazing job of integrating women and bringing them to the forefront of the action. Of course, Marvel had original members of the FF, the Avengers, and the X-Men all be represented by one women per team. They're big hitters! And even then, the women were pretty powerful and respected for their talents.

It's not perfect even how many decades later, but it's getting there. Kudos to Marvel to at least working on it, and boy, does it show!
Thats really awesome to hear. And i love how they seem to be wearing more clothes, i think the watchman? movie made it really obvious the difference between male and really characters, yea they are both sexualised in certain ways but the female characters have been 100X worse.

The movies really help me, i never read comics as a child, and the few i attempted to read that belonged to my ex housemate made zero sense to me. with Movies or Tv sows i get to meet all these wonderful and fantastic characters in a way that i understand, they all have such interesting back stories and abilities. its sad to deprive anyone of there stories, so the more formats they can be translated to the better.
I think DCs current Convergence is a reboot - so everything should be shiny and new and easy to get into. The Secret Wars reboot/Battleworld in Marvel is definitely a reboot. Out of the Multiverse - all the different alternate universes - only two exist now.

I'm not sure what's going to happen after Secret Wars/Battleworld, but one of the higher ups has said every single title will be affected, and the majority have been flat out cancelled.

So, yeah, new titles all around...
I'm pretty sure i got the gist of what you said. So there bringing all the characters mainly into the same two worlds? instead of having them all spread out over different 'dimensions' and what not? which makes sense, cause superman can't be the only person saving the word when you have other characters doing the same thing. and same with the marvel characters. (for the most part i know who comes from which comic book based from Young Justice and The avengers/marvel Agents)

though I'm not sure what Secret Wars/Battleworld is. and what is being cancelled? just the multi-worlds? or some characters as well?
They used to have what they called a multiverse: many different versions of what could have happened. (And there is more crossover between them than I can count which can get just plain weird!) And no, they killed off all the other verses. Only two remain: Earth-616 and Earth....I can't remember the number, but it's called the Ultimate Universe.

Secret Wars reboot is where they killed off literally the world. Or at least Earth-616, which is considering the real/canon/longstanding Marvel universe. Battleworld is where characters from the two remaining universes battle it out.

And everything. Every single Marvel title has been canceled. Uncanny Avengers? No more. (Sobs!) All Avengers title? Turn into the all-female A-Force for Battleworld, and not sure what's happening after. (Co-written by the Muslim woman who wrote Mrs. Marvel, by the way, which starred a Muslim-American woman superhero.) Rocket Raccoon? Cancelled. (Sobs!) Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, and Legendary Star-Lord? Cancelled. (Sobs, sobs, sobs!)

I am struggling with this. I am not ready to say goodbye to Earth-616, I am not happy with what they did to Rocket, and I am definitely not ready for the end all of all my series :(

Oh, yeah, also, this might have to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe - or MCU - in which they try to incorporate more of that into Marvel. Much like they made the characters look more like the actors after those movies took off!
Ahh that makes much more sense now!!

Battleworld sounds amazing!!!

oh wow seriously! but there such great characters!! why would they be cancelled?! whats going to happen to the characters now?
also a muslim-american women superhero! fuck yes! sounds way awesome.

Rocket is such a cool little critter. i love seeing your updates and pictures of him.

so there making all these changes because of MCU? O.o
if that was a silly question my excuse is im very tired. lol.
Eh, Battleworld is part of Secret Wars and me and the Secret Wars reboot aren't getting along.

I believe the replacement series are mini-series for Battleworld. Guardians of the Galaxy is being replaced by Guardians of Knowhere, Rocket by Groot, Legendary Star-Lord by Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde. And they're not canceling or picking out my characters. They're canceling literally every single title they're putting out. Why? Well, they did kill of an entire multiverse :P

But in all seriousness, no one knows what's going to go on after Secret Wars/Battleworld. Will Guardians of the Galaxy come back, or will it be Guardians of Knowhere from now on? I don't know. It's shaking up the entire universe. This is also an assumption, but I can only guess that they want to wipe out decades of history so that the characters can start brand-spanking-new and it'll be easier for movie-going fans to pick up the comics even if they haven't read a single Marvel comic ever. All in all, I'm not incredibly happy. I don't like the massive crossovers anyway, and this one, bleh. I don't like not knowing if I should sign up for new Marvel titles, if the Battleworld are mini-series and everything is going to get a reboot with new issues one after that. I just don't really like it. But, I can't get Rocket or Star-Lord or Vision elsewhere! (Ah, yes, in particular, I want to know what's going to happen with Vision!)

I believe so. I can't so for sure, but a lot of other people believe it, too, given that in the comics Wanda and Pietro - Scarlet Witch and Pietro - are no longer mutants. Just like in MCU now -_-

ETA: I also heard rumors that the new 'verse will be a mix of Ultimate and Earth-616. I believe it's more likely that these were rumbles about the rumble between Ultimate and Earth-616. I've also had friends who are comic fans tell me - to my face - that Rocket's series will come back - so long as he survives Battleworld. I've heard rumors that all the series will continue, or be rebooted, if those characters survive. There are tons of theories and very little concrete fact. I can speculate all day long, but if you ask what I really think? I think that no one knows except the people working on Battleworld and beyond. I think we'll see when it finishes. I'm just hoping it all ends soon so I can get on with the new verse, or the mixture of them, or whatever is going to happen.
hahaha sounds amusing, at least to me. but i suppose if your going to have such a dramatic change its going to take a while to work out all the kinks.

i know thee grabbing quite a few more fans via the movie releases but they shouldnt rewrite 'history' because of it. the reason why the characters are interesting and have odd quirks is based on their already formed backstory. if you start from scratch you'll have to get rid of all their good parts :/ who wants that?

but mutants are so awesome! not that i know who those guys are but MUTANTS! i can get behind that shit anyday.

i have a friend who has his own opinion based on all this, but he isnt as informative,so i havent asked all that much of his opinion. plus i already know who his fav characters are, and i doubt at least a few will be completely cut based on the new movies that are coming out. Still unless the characters have been complete and utter fails i dont think they should be dismantled, there are people out there who care and crave for them. kind of a dick move to be like 'oh well there's better characters that more ppl like so we killed them off', thats not cool.
The problem is that Fox, I believe, has the rights to X-Men. So when Disney wanted to use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, they had to negotiate rights - including that they weren't mutants. So they came up with the genetically enhanced aspect so they could keep their powers, and whitewashed away their Romani heritage. (Which was brought back in the comics, as their biological heritage, so... But that takes away their biological relationship to Magneto, so strips them of their Jewish heritage. Also, what was compelling was in the way he used them for his Brotherhood of Evil mutants without knowing that they were his children. It led to some interesting storylines, and some moral issues, like when he went good and tried to reconnect with them and wasn't really able to as easily as he'd hoped. A lot of angst and drama that doesn't have quite the same bang now.)

And a lot of people are upset by the changes, like the twins being created by the High Evolutionary rather than mutants now, or that they aren't related to Magneto. So a lot of fandom agrees.

As for starting over - like I said, I've heard rumors, but this is supposed to be one of their biggest events ever, if not the biggest. Marvel execs and employees are keeping pretty hush-hush. Even the writer of Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde said there was something obvious people were missing on the released first cover, but that he couldn't talk about it. Basically they are keeping a tight lid on it. And given that I've heard everything, from complete washing away of all history to melding the two universes, it's pretty hard to say what will happen. My guess is the washing of history for new fans. It's not like it's not happened before: look at DCs New 52 in which most things stayed the same, but they did wash away all the history and started anew to get new fans. And I liked a lot of the new 52, but I wasn't a big DC fan. Also, they did it because over half a century of history is intimidating for any new reader. Which is why reboots of series are useful for things, like starting a new Spider-Man series. The writer tends to include the highlights when relevant to a newer story.

Anyway, being a huge fan of lots of series in Marvel, I'm willing to stay with them through the birthing pains, but they better bowl me over. A lot of their recent series have been so amazing that I want, and expect, that level of quality and diversity and strong, women-led titles in their new lineups!
WOW that sounds highly complex and complicated... i kinda understand why they may want to start from scratch :/ though i agree it will take a lot away from the characters and their previous history together.

lol. well i hope whatever they decide it awesome and you thoroughly enjoy it!! besides trying to get the scope on whats going on and coming up with theories is half the fun!!
The Ultimate Universe was really popular, as was the New 52. The trick is to stay true to the characters and get really, really good writers and artists. They did that, and even I liked both those universes! (Ultimate way more, but Marvel is more my thing.)

And yes, yes, it is. So is navigating the fans who resent the shakeup while trying to keep them as fans and get more fans at the same time. I don't envy anyone high up at Marvel just right now, because that must be harsh.
Both of those names sound really familiar, so at least I'm not completely ignorant. though the Ultimate Universe more so.... probably from some games I've play... yea i def getting an image of an xbox or computer game in my head when i think of it. Does DC do UU? because pretty sure i know more about DC than marvel - though im catching up from the new marvel movies and tv shows.

hahaha yea it would be really difficult trying to keep the old fan base while making new ones, they're prob throwing out ideas then scurry around afterwards seeing if it was a plus or negative. ugh and could you imagine all the stress!!
DC is the New 52 reboot. Ultimate is the Marvel reboot. I know... more about Marvel than DC, though, mostly because I have more interest in Marvel. You probably know both those names because they were /huge/. New 52 is more recent, and I hear DC is already rebooting again with Convergence. (I wonder if they're trying to tie the world into their TV shows, much like Marvel has taken the MCU - Marvel Cinematic Universe - into their world.)

As for Ultimate DC, no, not that I know of. When DC rebooted they did what Marvel is doing now: cancelled everything and started again. Ultimate Universe didn't replace Earth-616 (the multiverses are numbered, and the 'normal' universe is most well know as Marvel, or Earth-616). When Ultimate started, it ran alongside 616. X-Men /and/ Ultimate X-Men were both being put out at the same time.

Or, what I should say, is New 52 is kinda, sorta the DC UU except not. There were more drastic changes, more convergence, in Marvel's UU. (Marvel's Ultimate isn't known by a number, by the way, because it's easier to remember/call it the Ultimate Universe. 616 is widely known by the number - by fans at least - simply because, well, there's no other definer to that universe. Or at least that's what I've come to understand.)

And the fact that anything they do to retcon it back is going to be given the side-eye. They've made their bed, there's no good 'it was a a /dreeeeeam/' excuse that anyone will look kindly upon. They're /stuck/ with this universe they create, whether or not the old guard likes it!

Excuse me for going on and on. I simply adore the Marvel-verse :D
hahaha there's nothing wrong with being passionate. get me talking about certain subjects and i can go on forever!! lol.

well DC universe? i think it was called was a game i played, was really fun. got to create my own character
I'm vaguely familiar with DCU, or at least that acronym. I remember some comics about them, too? Was it a game? This is how out of the loop I am on DC.

That, however, was different from Marvel Universe from what I understand. One moment as I Google.

This is what I'm finding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Universe

So I'm not sure what DCU is actually, given the first couple of paragraphs. I feel like Marvel/their multiverses are more well defined, but that may just be because I am so much more familiar with Marvel!
*bangs head on desk* BL only posted a 1/3 of my comment
DCU is a game on steam, not sure how strict it is with the rules in relation to sticking with character stories, but its super fun so i dont mind at all.
beyond that not sure i could inform you of much more, it has the usual batman villains... maybe i should say Gotham villains? you run around beat the bad guys (or good if your a bad dude) and possibly get missions from batman? (dono its been a while) i recall nighting! he was a complete retard, constantly got himself into trouble and always needed rescuing. made poor robin seem like a complete idiot! lol.
