Sounds like I liked this one more than you did but I agree with you on the "love hate" overused term and at times awkward phrases. This was my first Crane book so I didn't know if it was her style or if she is still going through growing pains as a writer.
She has a quirky writing style :) it was a good fit for Urban Fantasy but a little off for me for this genre. I loved The Disillusionists! It was very... Different. I did like this but had many little nitpicks unfortunately.
