Fifteen year old me DID love these books. Twenty something little less and thirty something is grumbling, a lot.

P.S. Love the tags ;)

I think it's going to be interesting to see if/how my thoughts change after the second book. I'm hoping some of the things I didn't love so much in the first book evolve a bit.

*sits on hands so as not to spoil you*

I can say that I DNFed Hobb's other fantasy trilogy, The Soldier Son, about 70 pages into the second book because she basically hit a reset button between books one and two. The Royal Apprentice isn't nearly as bad, which I admit is a faint praise, but come on: It's Fitz. Fitz is magic that makes all bad narrative decisions irrelevant and pulls you in. Also, you should go back and read the chapter intros if you haven't already. There are titbits there somewhere. Skim if you must.

P.S. Did you find my ShippityShip yet? Remember, I didn't start shipping it until the end of Tawny Man.
