Oh cool! I'll have to check this one out. I'm a huge fan of his Logan McRae series.

And I, in turn, will be checking out the Logan McRae books. :)

Ok, I know it is rude for me not to have read MacBride (him being a local hero and all) but are his books any good? There is a book launch with him here tomorrow.

This is my first one, so I can't speak to the others. However, as soon as I finished this I added the second Ash book and the first Logan McRae book. I would jump at the chance to meet the guy!

This book was AWESOME, but very, VERY dark. (It also involves torture of young children at points, so that will be a trigger issue for some.)
BrokenTune 5 years ago
Yeah, ... The torture part is where I lose interest. It irked me in McDermid's Tony Hill series and it would irk me with MacBride.
Char's Horror Corner 5 years ago
It didn't focus on it, it was mentioned after the fact, so the reader isn't there while it's happening, if that makes sense. (Because torture is not my thing at all.)

Hm, ... Ok, I might go to the launch if I get to leave work in time.

Okay, you understood what I was trying to say. Sometimes my words can't properly express what's in my head. (Which is why I'm a reader and not an author!)
BrokenTune 5 years ago
Oh, no worries, I understood. :)

Scottish Noir, who knew!? Must tell my partner-he's a scot.
BrokenTune 5 years ago
It's definitely a thing, Scottish Noir (or Tartan Noir).

Tartan Noir lol!
Char's Horror Corner 5 years ago
Yep! Tartan Noir! I stole the tag from someone else's shelving.

I'm so glad (almost) everyone has loved this on HR. :D
My first book nomination a success.

Yes it is and thank you, once again! :)

Sounds like something I must read soon!

Unlike your 700 page tome, this one FLEW by.

I'm so jealous right now!

I read a lot of Tartan Noir. I've read all of MacBride's books and although I love his characters and his plots, the books are occasionally too gory for me. But I recommend James Oswald's Tony McLean series and Ed James's Cullen series, both are heavily influenced by MacBride but brilliant in their own rights.

I'll be checking out Ammy for those. Thanks. :)

Oooh, thanks, Murder!
