I'm in no way into horror and you've got me wanting to read it bad! Hopefully that goes some way to letting you know how great your review is. And it made total sense when you said by McDowell treating the horrific elements as normal he made them MORE horrifying. Makes it sound quite dark. Anyway, glad you loved it so much.

It's a slippery slope, Hol. I am not a horror reader either, but Char recommended The Elementals (also by McDowell) to me last year and now I am absolutely addicted to McDowell's books.

I'll make a start on Blackwater in a couple of weeks.

Thank you, Hol!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, BT!

@BT Ha! Duly noted.

The Elementals is the one I just manged to get in audio from a friend. I'll try it at some point. You both really liked it?

It is creepy. And I mean "CREEPY", but so atmospheric!

LOVED. IT. Both the book and the audiobook. :)

I think it'll be a while before I listen to it seeing as it's so creepy and I'm anxious at the best of times! I'll get to it, though.

Yeah, probably wise. Still, McDowell is fab and I hope you get to try some some time.

I'll read it on a nice bright summers day, so I don't get too creeped out

The Elementals would be great for that weather. In fact, no matter what the weather is outside when you read it, I guarantee you'll feel the heat and humidity from the book. In fact the weather and the setting is almost a character in and of itself.

Exactly! And the sand.... let's not forget the sand.

I will NEVER forget that sand!

@Char I'm even more excited now! All I need is for my anxiety to piss off and then I can read it!
