I can't recommend it enough. It is a bit dated research-wise but it is incredibly readable and the information is still very worthwhile. It took me two days to finish but only because I started so late; I also started it the very day I checked it out from the library.

Yes, I believe it was. I'd planned to quote from it extensively...then my computer died. So I wrote out a few but somehow missed his bookmark. His was an amazing story, how he drilled his people. They complained...but nearly all of them got out alive.

He was a member of the group of soldiers in the book "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young". There was as television special about him that reruns on occasion.
