Yeah, that does sound like you have given the book more chances than it deserves.

The thing is, the idea of it is too good to just pass up. It's set in 1867 and it's a cozy murder mystery set around if fairy tales are true or not. I should be speeding through this and the sequel sitting on my shelf...but it feels so empty. The characters are words on the page, there's not flesh to them. I can't point to any one thing that kills my enjoyment but it's like the book just sucks all the fun out of me as I read it.

I want to give it one more chance, get further than I did before, before I write it off for good. The idea deserves that much.

Huh. This sat on my to-buy list forever but kept getting missed. Must have been the book gods trying to tell me something. :)

You mentioned in my post about it a couple (looks like it was 2014) years ago that you were going to put it on hold. I'll let you know how far I get. The second book came out recently and again, it sounds good. But if I can't get through the first book...
