I recently read an Irish novel I loved, called Resurrection Man, by Eoin McNamee. It took place in Belfast in the late 1960s to mid-1970s. It was somewhat violent, so I'll mention that, but not gratuitous where it could have been. It was also written in such a unique, beautiful style, that prompted me to go from 4 stars to 4.5 stars. I'm not sure if it's a great pick for you, but again, the poetical style kind of off-set the violence.

That sounds really good. I'll go and look it up now. Thanks. I'm not too bad with violence, as long as it's not there for the sake of it.
