Thanks. I belong to a review group (Rosie's Book Review Team), and there we get a choice of books, mostly independent. Members have their preferences, and we all try to review at least one of the books on the list per month, if we can. I am also in NetGalley, where I request books I'm interested in, and sometimes I'm also invited to read books, the problem is that I like the sound of many more books than I have time to read, so I have a very long list of books pending. Once you write and share reviews, as I do on my blog, people get in touch offering copies for review, and I find it difficult to say no if I'm interested in the book, although often I recommend they try other reviewers or groups. I have such an accumulation of books that I rarely read books when I get them, unless I have agreed to participate on something that has a specific deadline, like a blog tour. Otherwise, I tell people it might be a while. I don't have a lot of method to my reading, I must admit. Sometimes, if I have read several books in the same genre, I look for something different, and sometimes I look for something specific for other reasons (I do translations, and I might look for books in a similar genre to the book I'm translating, for inspiration, for example). What tends to happen, as well, is that I read somebody else's review, and it reminds me of a book I have on my list, and if I trust that person's opinion, then I push it up my list. I met this publisher through an author, and they happened to be local to where I lived in the UK at the time, and they always send me a list of their new books. And they have a great catalogue. Not at all, but these are the types of questions one doesn't necessarily think about until someone asks. There are genres I normally won't read (erotica, and high fantasy are not my cup of tea, although with fantasy it depends on the story), and others that it depends on my mood. Have a great week.
