Ugh! I can't abide cliffhanger endings. Pity because it looks otherwise interesting.
Well, as the last book is coming out soon (these books are translated from Danish and the whole original series is already written and published), so if you fancy it you can wait until the last one is published and read them all. Unless you read Danish, that is. I don't recommend starting the series here, because there's too much background information, and the story builds on and follows from one book to the next. I think the author avoids publishing very long books, and that means that some of the stories carry over two volumes. I think most people who've got to this point in the series will keep reading till the end, but I'm not a fun of cliffhangers either.

I've never been good with languages. I speak English and a little American, though slang terms have got away from me.

6 books is a hefty commitment, but I'll have a look at the first one and see if it grabs me.
I know what you mean. I'm not very good with series, but I started reading this one at a moment when I needed something a bit different and it connected with me. See what you think.
I'm hoping to get into language teaching (English and Spanish), and I think everybody can learn languages, but it's difficult to find the right approach and teacher (and sometimes we aren't in the right place for it).
Just in case...
