I always feel like Gaiman founders with the longer works; he's at his best with his shorter books and stories, and the longer ones just feel... padded? Bloated.

I'd definitely agree that it isn't one of Gaiman's best, although I didn't struggle with it as much as you.

I didn't think this was all that either!! I loved Neverwhere and almost everything else of his that I've read so far, this and Trigger Warnings being the only exceptions.
Hmm, Trigger Warning is on my tbr. I'd best read a sample.

I liked Trigger Warnings, at least more than I usually like short story collections, but my enjoyment of the individual stories varied.

I didn't like this book either. The concept was great, but the execution was horrible. Boooooring, slow, bland.
I'm glad it wasn't just me.
