Great list! I tend not to read much about the American Civil War, but some of the books you listed sound really good from a general history interest point, too.

This is about an earlier period in American slavery, but an interesting novel: "Someone Knows My Name," by Lawrence Hill. (Sold in countries not the US as "The Book of Negroes.")
Also, "March," by Geraldine Brooks (alias Mrs. Tony Horwitz). The narrative of the father of the girls in Little Women.

Is the Hill book the basis for the series The Book of Negroes?
I don't know; this is the first I've heard of the series.
