More of a 2.5 star read. I just disliked the writing style so much that I could not get into the story. The story itself was alright. An interesting story of addiction, but overall this just was not for me.

5/5 starsIn Crank raw pain, a deepening addiction, and a crumbling family come together to tell a real, powerful story. I remember when I was younger that quite a few people around me read this book though I never bothered to try. I finally the other day opened it up and was entranced by the poetic ...

Quick review for a very quick read, in part because this was a novel that was written entirely in verse form. "Crank" is Ellen Hopkins's first novel. I'm reading this *years* after the fact, and I'll admit it had my attention and sentiments for much of the read. I would highly recommend listening to...

Crank isn’t the first novel by Ellen Hopkins that I’ve read so I was already aware of her poetic free verse way of writing. I actually really enjoyed the other two or three books that I’ve read by her, but I didn’t enjoy this one as much. I think I would’ve preferred to have a read this book in a mo...

Crank is a novel written in verse, so it is an extremely quick read despite its 537 pages. I picked this up from the library without reading the synopsis. I just knew it was popular. I get roped into reading things that way sometimes. I read the synopsis yesterday before I began listening. It was pretty much what I guessed it would be, but with an extra twist. Let’s talk about Kristina/...

I honestly did not read every page since I knew the story. I read this to check out the use of poetry in story telling. The poetry was outstanding and the flow of the story was excellent. I have a whole new outlook on the genre. I never read any amount of poetry before this book, but I'm definitely ...

Last year I discovered the verse-novel writing style through a few of Sonya Sones books. Through further searching, I found out about Ellen Hopkins, and in turn, the Crank books. I was pleased what I found within the covers of this book. I’m amazed at just how much weight this book can hold, yet c...
