This series continues to impress; well researched and insightful historical fiction, spy thriller and mystery all in one. Enjoyed the depiction of 1920s Japan in this particular volume. Sad to be running out of books in the series; fortunately, I see there are others!

Once again I have nothing to critize about her books. I absolutely love this series! I only wish she would produce more frequently. Great job! Must read if you love Sherlock Holmes...

Really enjoyed this a lot. I love mysteries and my love for Holmes even more. I must say I was not disappointed in it. While I was confused at times with their relationship, I never read the others. The characters were great, though I would have liked more Holmes in there than there was. While I kno...

If you're a fan of this series, you've probably noticed the author left some gaps in the timeline between other books. There were allusions to the couple's "Japan adventure" & now we get the whole story. Told in 3 parts, the prologue finds Mary & Sherlock finally home in Sussex after months of trave...

I went into the reading of this novel expecting something similar to the Sherlock Holmes that we have all grown to love, though I understood that he would now have a partner whom I expected would serve as a sort of female Watson. This is not that story. My expectations were inappropriate mostly due t...
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
Dreaming Spies is the 13th installment in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. And it was a real return to form for me from the two previous in the series, The Pirate King (for me, the weakest in the series), and Garment of Shadows (OK). This one is partly (about 2/3) set be...

The story in Dreaming Spies begins with Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell arriving home after all the adventures in Morocco (Pirate King and Garments of Shadows) and finding a rock in their garden. This rock is just the beginning, or in a way the countinuation of an old case that started around a yea...
