This book includes 43 artistic color photographs by Edward Sturr of controlled burns on the 13.5 square mile tallgrass Konza Prairie (near Manhattan, Kansas) printed on high quality glossy paper stock. Commentary by Sturr describes some of the aesthetic, physical, and unique considerations in photographing tallgrass fires. Also included is an article by John Briggs that describes the Konza, and explains the biological importance of prairie burning and the methods that are used. Elizabeth Dodd's essay takes the reader right along with a team on an actual burn to vividly experience a Konza Prairie controlled burn. In addition included is one of her nature-based "ecopoems," for which she has gained national recognition.
