Chosen Ones, Mary Sues and magical pets? Count me in! I liked the narrative style better than the previous book. Simple, positive and entertaining.

Actual Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIn the Hand of the Goddess is the sequel to Alanna: The First Adventure, one of my new favorite classic fantasies from this year. I liked In the Hand of the Goddess more than Alanna; the First Adventure.I liked how Alanna's character became more complex as she grew up and I enjoyed reading about her. I enjoyed how simply the plot of this book had more going on in it- it was more interesting than the first book. Jonathan is swe...

I was disappointed in the way both George and Jonathan responded to Alanna's secret. They promised her nothing would change, but then both of them kissed her - when she told them to stop! - and we're supposed to take that as soo romantic. It's icky and boring.
