I was completely unimpressed by this collection of vignettes attempting to pass themselves off as a novel (or rather novella, as it is mercifully short). I found Woman Hollering Creek, a collection of short stories also by Sandra Cisneros, to be a much more enjoyable read.
This was done in a series of vignettes. It was okay. Well written, but I think I expected it to be something more. Not a bad collection of stories, but i don't know if I'll ever read it again.
It was ok, but because of the nature of it (short vignettes) I found myself forgetting what I'd read. Each clip has some great things in them, but I like being able to tie things together and these were all unrelated.
I had been wanting to read this for so long. What a voice Sandra Cisneros has! I fell in love with Esperanza and her quirky neighborhood and was reminded that no matter who we are or where we come from we all have dreams of something better.
