Larry D. Thomas, a member of the Texas Institute of Letters, was the 2008 Texas Poet Laureate. He has published twenty-five collections of poetry, most recently The Goatherd (Mouthfeel Press, El Paso, TX 2014), winner of the 2015 Western Heritage Award, and Art Museums (Blue Horse Press, Redondo Beach, CA 2014). Among the numerous other prizes and awards he has received for his poetry are the 2004 Violet Crown Award (Writers' League of Texas), the 2003 Western Heritage Award (Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma), two Texas Review Poetry Prizes (2001 and 2004), six Pushcart Prize nominations, a Poets' Prize nomination (Nicholas Roerich Museum/West Chester University), and seven Spur Award Finalist citations (Western Writers of America).
