This reads, in part, like a underdog story. However, it's not drab and dour, but of taking one on the chin. It's about frontier life in 1960s Minnesota. Best descriptions I've ever read of what it's like to be in extremely cold weather. I wasn't all that crazy for the story but I enjoyed the author's skill with words.
