Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith My rating: 3 of 5 stars Alex Sawyer finds himself in Furnace Penitentiary; a pit in the ground, its sole purpose to cage away the youngest of offenders. The thing is, Alex may be a thief, and he may have broken the law, but he certainly doesn't belong in Hell. Faci...

The cover and the first paragraph called to me on this one and I was very excited to get busy on reading it. So Lockdown is all based around a penitentiary for those that break the law the thing of it is, is that this penitentiary is underground I mean there is nothing but rock surrounding people. ...

Fast paced and bloody brilliant.“Don't go looking for snakes, you might find them..Don't send your eyes to the sun, you might blind them,Haven't I seen you here before? There ain't no heroes here....”This is a shit-meet-fan kind of book. Not nearly as thrilling towards the end, as it is when our friends gets locked up in Furnace. Would maybe read more in the future, but I'm in no hurry... Only reason would be to see how the cliff hanger at the end of this book is carried into the second book.. I assume there's more prison breaking.

4.5. This was heading for a 4, but that ending made me grin so much. This ends on a cliffhanger. This book barely skims the surface of this prison, society, and characters. This books raises more questions than answers them. For a YA novel, I consider it very dark. Children that are killers, gangs, ...

This is book is great! I thought it would be much more scarier but no. Instead it was intense, mind-reeling great book. I enjoyed it more than what I thought I would. We meet Alex who has been wrongfully imprisoned. Through the plot, the reader runs with Alex as he is trying to escape the furnace. In...

The writing is very descriptive up to the point of being tedious but that’s fine because the plot’s simple enough to follow: Alex is not a good kid. He is a bully and a thief. His life of petty crime changes once he is sent to the Furnace. Now consider the tag line: Beneath Heaven is Hell. Beneath ...

It turns out that this is the book that I had confused Incarceron with. Unfortunately, I hated it just as much.Really only readable by boys of a certain age.
