My mom gave me this book; I do like most things genealogical, historical, and Americana (through WWI). Somewhere in my genealogical research a few years ago, I discovered that my mom's family has a line that *may* go back to William Brewster of the Mayflower, somehow. My ancestory.com account is dea...
I think were it not that I've been so spoiled by some amazing history books lately, I'd be rating this five stars. It's certainly the perfect book to read right before American Thanksgiving. The Mayflower, as every American schoolchild has been taught, is the name of the ship that brought the "Pilgr...
Oddly enough, I'm not that familiar with this time in American history. I've never heard of King Phillip's War before reading this book. There were parts of the War section of this book that made me feel a lot of sympathy for the Native Americans and very little for the Pilgrims (well, their childre...

I don't have a strong foundation at all in early American history, and although I had heard of King Philip's War, I certainly had no idea of its scope or scale. I am also not familiar with the geography of this region of the country, ...
This was a very good book. It doesn't just cover the voyage of the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving (which is about all I hear about the pilgrims) but it covers all the events leading up to the journey and through to the end of King Philip's War.

What do the Pilgrim do after that first winter and how does the colon...
Really interesting book and analysis of the first Thanksgiving. I learned a lot of interesting facts I didn't know or didn't study in American history class.
Profoundly readable history of the Mayflower and the Pilgrim's Plymouth Colony settlement in the early 17th century. Much of what I was taught about this was either wrong or grossly misleading. It is astounding what the early settlers had thrown at them and managed to barely survive. Brutal weath...
