Murder in Mesopotamia isn´t one of my favorite Christie´s. And it isn´t because the crime plot was a bad one, quite the contrary. I found the crime and the solution to be as equally as good as some of her other books. It´s because the characters are incredibly bland and boring and the narrator of ...
Series: Hercule Poirot #14 I didn't see that coming. Poirot gets called in to investigate the murder of an archaeologist's wife when it seems like no one could have gotten into the courtyard to gain access to her room aside from the members of the expedition. I liked the solution to the murder, b...
Well, now that I've learnt a little bit of French I have discovered that Poirot's little sayings make more sense (such as Eh Bein, which means ah good). Okay, it isn't as if the entire book is in French, or that Christie overuses the phrases, but for some reason, until I actually started studying th...
In Murder in Mesopotamia, Christie takes us again to a location she's very familiar with - an archaeological dig near Hassanieh, Iraq. To go into the details of this Poirot story would spoil the read for some so I won't. However, there is one question I have that has driven me nuts every single ti...
I wish that I had liked this one more than I did (I gave it 3.5 stars but Goodreads only gives full stars so I rounded up to a 4). I think the main problem was that the story was told from Amy Leatheran's point of view. Amy Leatheran speaks in an older voice during the course of this story though s...
Louise Leidner--"Lovely Louise," as she is known to the ex-pat communnity in Iraq--is a compelling woman. She is beautiful, intelligent, and confident--but she's also a quivering bundle of nerves. She hears tapping on her window, sees ghostly faces hovering outside, and receives threatening lette...

Amy Leatheran has never felt the lure of the mysterious East, but when she travels to an ancient site...
I have always had a taste for the exotic, particularly in my mysteries. This is part of the reason I have read so many crime books that mix genres - historical mysteries, science fiction mysteries, paranormal mysteries... So I have always enjoyed those stories of Christie's that take place in the mo...
As good a Poirot-mystery as ever. I found a cast of over 10 characters in a 300 page book a little overwhelming however. The setting in early 20th century Mesopotamia was nicely done. I almost discovered the murderer this time! :-)
