The first of Elena Ferrante's popular Neopolitan Quartet. Set in a poor district of Naples amidst families, feuds, first loves and strict moral codes, i t is the story of the developing friendship of two girls, told through the eyes of one of them, the "Brilliant Friend". But it is the other girl wh...

It took way longer than I expected to finish this. First of all the storytelling felt a bit choppy at the beginning. It would start a scene and without finishing it would jump straight to another unrelated scene, and then without finishing that one would switch to another. One moment these two girls...

I picked this up after hearing Hillary Clinton mention it was her current read on the I'm With Her podcast. I was completely enthralled by the beautiful translation of such an intricate portrait of girlhood, young womanhood, and friendship.

2016 UC Book Club Aug. ReadIt is so great that the hype for this is well deserved. And honestly, I really want to re-read (and watch) Gomorrah but the new Byatt arrived today with the Harry Potter play . . . I don’t really know what more I can add to what people have said about this book, yet, I’m g...

I liked the story, the characters, the description of the sea and the Vesuvius, and the writing style. This book reminded me of the movie 'Me Without You'.
