In America, we are completely dependent upon electronics. They run our cars, our phones, our houses, and more. But what if something came along and destroyed all that!? What if our enemies send an EMP our way? We would be completely lost! One Second After deals with the after affects of an EMP and i...

So apparently this is one of the best apocalyptic novels ever, at least according to large swathes of the Interwebs.Personally, I don't see it. The plot is interesting and the research is excellent, but the writing itself is execrable. I have expectations of professional novelists. These include bei...

I usually like books like One Second After, where the book is all premise, and the story follows all the steps that follow from that premise. Seveneves was one -- what would happen if the moon blew up? -- and The Martian was another, and One Second After asks what would happen if an EMP (electromagn...

Poorly written military lecture, disappointing as it could have been so much better. The premise is great but it reads like a lecture interspersed with moments describing the scene before the lecture begins.

Great premise for a book but the story was pretty much the same as [b:Earth Abides|93269|Earth Abides|George R. Stewart|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1320505234s/93269.jpg|1650913]. An EMP weapon is still a good idea though for a post-apocalyptic story since it is statistically more p...

Just didn't like this one from the conversation style right in the beginning to the main character knowing everything immediately. There was no suspense, and none of the characters seemed very like able.

One Second After may not really be the "best book I have ever read" for it's literary merit. Yes, it is well written, well scripted, and realistic in tone and writing style. What makes it the "best" is how REAL it is. America is, as is readily admitted by our government and military, NOT ready for a...

This book scared the CRAP out of me! I was able to read about 100 pages, and then I had to walk away. I'm pretty good about being able to tell how plots play out in books, and I did not want to be right about this one. After I decided that I was done, I asked my friend who recommended the book if I ...

This scenario is terrifying. A little too realistic for comfort, but the writing could be better.
