Patricia Costa Viglucci has a degree in English literature, but everything she learned about writing came from working in a city room as a "newspaperman.". She has worked as a general assignment reporter, television and drama critic, editor and columnist. And she is still at it. Her motto is "A writer is a writer is a writer," and Pat sees no reason to confine herself to one genre. She has written children's stories, young adult novels, a set of family memoirs and a collection of newspaper columns. Now she has added lighthearted romances to her list of books. A new romantic comedy was published, June 2013 titled, "Jordan's Island," set in the Thousand Islands of New York State. As with her other books, her settings reflect travels she and her husband have taken with their children and grandchildren.Check out the August, 2013 issue of Thousand Island Life which features a story on how the idea for Jordan's Island came about and how Pat researched it.Two previous romantic comedies have been published as E books. Both are feel-good stories. "The Connecticut Cowboy and the Riviera Runaway," revolves around Caitlin Harris. Fed up with her wealthy, money-oriented fiance, Cait gives him back his ring and takes off for the Italian and French Riviera on her own. There she meets a stranger, the first half of the title whom she dubs The Connecticut Cowboy. Jake, who is really in the hotel business, has sapphire eyes and is sporting western boots. He comes to Caitlin's rescue when she runs into trouble in enchanting Portofino. The itinerary follows one Pat and her husband took with their children some years ago and hits its stride when Caitlin and Jake reach gorgeous Lake Como and narrowly avoid a dunking. Enjoy and be sure to leave a review."Pride and Pretense" takes advantage of the author's newspaper career as a TV editor and assistant drama critic on a metropolitan morning newspaper. Pat met a lot of movie stars and playwrights, some while in Hollywood. Among her favorite interviews was one with Tennessee Williams when he premiered his "Night of the Iguana" in Rochester. Some famous actors show up under other names in this fun romance. P and P has both humor and passionate moments without graphic details."Cassandra Robbins, Esq." is also a romance, but one that involves adoption and racial issues. The heroine is 17, bi-racial, adopted by a white family and trying to figure out where she fits in. It has its light-hearted moments, but also deals with serious concerns. Out of print for a number of years, it is now available as an E-book. Pat visits schools and discusses this book along with "Sun Dance at Turtle Rock" and "Beware the Ghost Riders!" set in England. All are award-winning books.Pat's non-fiction winner, "Growing Up Italian in God's Country," traces the struggles of her immigrant ancestors from 1890 to 1950 in her beloved Allegheny Mountains and has been widely read and discussed since 2001.It is available as as a paperback and ebook.Pat began her professional writing career for her hometown paper while still in high school. She has been working as a journalist ever since. After earning her B.A. degree in English literature at St. Bonaventure University she worked at the Bradford (Pa) Era and later at the Rochester, NY Democrat and Chronicle as a general assignment reporter, theater and television critic. She also edited, "The Golden Times," a newspaper for older readers her husband founded and published and has written columns for a number of papers. When her youngest child started school, she began writing lighthearted romances which she shelved to write her first young adult novel,"Cassandra Robbins, Esq." "Cassandra," was followed by two more YA novels, "Sun Dance at Turtle Rock," and "Beware the Ghost Riders," which is set in the U.K.The settings used include Buxton, a former Roman spa, second only to Bath. Pat is a frequent visitor to schools discussing these novels and the writing process. She also speaks to adult groups about her family memoir, "Growing Up Italian in God's Country: Stories from the Wilds of Pennsylvania," and about the collection of her newspaper columns of family life, "Don't Kiss Me Goodbye! I'm Going With You" which also includes previously published short essays and fiction. Pat uses her travels as backgrounds for her romances and two are set in Italy, one in NY's Thousand islands, one in the Adirondacks and one which features her beloved Allegheny mountains. Also planned: a book about her and her husband's travels in Italy. Stay tuned.
