My struggles with writing have been normal for anyone trying to make their living in this era of saturation and story implosion. One thing that has inherently changed the way I write has been my dyslexia. All my life I've rearranged sentences both grammatically and with spelling. I've always interpreted images backwards, and conveyed them to the reader as such. I think that is why I'm so enamored with writing in first-person, which gives you some stylistic leeway when it comes to voice. "Beware the Ills," my first novel, embraces this style to a fine point. My blog "The Greenland Diaries," which will soon be a novel is similar. I'm experimenting more in third-person, and trying to use dyslexia as a strength. My main styles I write in are Slipstream and Magical Realism, which are sub-genres of science fiction and fantasy. I've always been writing and experimenting with language since I was just a tiny guy. I went to the U of M's creative writing program for it, dropped out to work at a bank, then returned to a community college to spruce up my writing again. The passion for writing sort of rules me, so I had to reevaluate my life with it. I've been published in a variety of literary magazines. I pursue both traditional and self-publishing. I recently started a literary zine called Calamities Press. I like to read, watch football, cuddle with my dog, and play Super Nintendo.
