Very good read set in a British prison in the late 1930s. The prison life is vividly sketched. There's a slow progression from non-con sex to love; the prison life and rules make it believable and almost reasonable (!).I didn't like the coda at the end.

Once in a while I read something outside of my comfort zone; this is one of those books. I knew, given that Gabe was serving a life sentence, that it wouldn't end well. But a book like this makes the read so worthwhile. Every. Single. Tear. Too.
