I'm a doctor who served for 35 years in the British Army. I had a wonderful life, starting as a regimental Medical Officer in Malaya during the emergency, trained as an ophthalmologist, and ended up as Head of Army Ophthalmology in the rank of full colonel. I served in many interesting places such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Nepal, Jerusalem, Borneo, Cyprus and Germany. I retired at 60 and then had a successful writing career, publishing thirty-five non-fiction books (see details of my publishers on my web site at www.robertyoungson.com) and earning quite a lot of money. In my best year I grossed more than £50,000 and had to register for VAT. My books have been translated into fifteen foreign languages and long sections from some of my books has been stolen as copy for foreign newspapersLater I turned to creative writing and produced twenty-two novels and half a dozen serious books on the pursuit of happiness and the evils of religion. All my later books are published on Amazon Kindle and are to be found in the Kindle book store at pretty low prices. With two or three exceptions, all my novels have serious themes and are intended for readers who want more than entertainment. This makes them unattractive to publishers who are interested only in money.
