I am done with this series. A Meeting at Corvallis, the third book in first Emberverse trilogy, unfortunately didn't return to the magic of the 1st in this series. Too much battle info-dumping, not enough people behaving believably. That said, I did cry [spoiler] at the death of Mike Havel ...

While flawed, Dies the Fire (Emberverse Book 1), is one of my favorite post-apocalyptic novels. The same cannot be said for the the sequel. The Protector's War (Emberverse Book 2) is set 8 or 9 years after The Change re-worked the laws of nature and plunged the earth back to a semi-agrarian exist...

AudiobookCan I book about a modern day island on the American east coast (Nantucket) going back in time be boring? Yes. And for an isolated island with minimal supplies there is a lot of traveling going on - to Europe, to the Caribbean, South America. I know the author didn't want to bog down the bo...

On March 17, 1998 there was a brilliant flash of light, and afterwards explosives (including gunpowder), internal combustion, and electricity no longer work. *Trigger warning for rape and child abuse* I really like the Ship Who Sang series, or at least the idea behind it. (Not even why people are put in shells, but that they are. So if someone is born and within a certain amount of time, it's discovered that they will be so handicapped they can't d...

A title like "Dangerous Women" invites cliché, and this anthology features a fair number of them - particularly the femmes fatales. It could be that the femme fatale just doesn't work for me as a character. Always seen through jaded male eyes, she perhaps has a longer history than is sometimes re...

10/9 - Thank goodness this was available at the library immediately following the conclusion of T2: Infiltrator. Unfortunately, I had to wait till this afternoon to actually get started because I had another, far less exciting book that had to be finished so I could return it to the library this mor...

7/9 - I'm a big fan of all the Terminator movies (I never really understood the hate directed towards T3 or 4, I thought they were great) and always wanted to know more about what happened to Miles' family after his death. When I first heard of T3 I was hoping it would go on straight from where T2 l...
