I'm a stand-up comedian and writer living in Sydney, Australia. My name is actually just Sam - I missed out on the traditional extra bits that Sams normally get. I'm not Samuel, Samson or Samwise. This is because I was named after the family cat. What happened was, my parents had a cat called Sam, then they had me, after which they were like, 'Oh dear - we used up the name we like on the cat!' So they took the cat's name away, called me Sam, and renamed the cat Mr Meowgi.I have always been thankful those things happened in the right order. Since then I have written several books and stage plays, as well as for various televisual broadcasts. As a stand-up comedian, I have been nominated for several awards at important festivals, though sadly I have never actually won anything.
