I know that this is a children's book, but I found this book to be as magical as the hallmark movie. I could read this over and over again. It was just so heart-warming.
A good accompaniment to the Little House series. A widower seeks a new wife as a help-mate, and in response to his newspaper ad comes Sarah, plain and tall. A sweet little story about the developing relationship between a step-mother and her new family, and a nice snippet of frontier life.
Caleb and Anna miss their mother, especially her singing. Papa also misses the companionship, so he puts an ad out for a new wife. Sarah responds and agrees to visit for one month. During that time they all grow to enjoy each other's company.

I'm normally not very interested in the settling of the Plains States. I don't know why, maybe because I'm agoraphobic and I don't even want to read about open spaces? I enjoyed reading this anyway, at least in part because I enjoying stories about people deliberately creating a family.
Read this in Grade 4, liked the book but the vast number of assignments/tasks required to analyze the book in class lost some of the appeal for the book for me.
