There are few experiences which are quite as intense as sinking into a pool of water within a capsule and having the lid slid closed behind you. To some people this would seem like a type of torture; however, it is actually a fantastic experience and an opportunity to explore your own limits, social beliefs and to assess what is really important in life.
Sensory deprivation involves the use of a float tank which has a mixture of water and Epsom salts in; you can float without any effort and remain in the water for an extended period of time. The lid closes leaving you in complete darkness and the water muffles, if not eliminates any sounds. Without your senses your brain will slowly relax and empty; an experience you will never have felt before; even when you feel your brain is empty you have a thousand thoughts and notions running through your head.
This book looks at what causes sensory overload and how you can help to prevent or deal with this issue. It looks at the experience of sensory deprivation; including where to find a centre and what to expect at the centre. It also looks at the reasons and benefits of undertaking a sensory deprivation session and even touches on how sensory intelligence can be improved through the use of the float tank.
Sensory deprivation is a relatively young science and there are still no exact answers regarding the reasons why this is so beneficial to the human mind and body, the book looks at the main theories which have been proposed as to why this is the case and also offers a range of tips to help you relax and prepare for your first session. This will help to ensure you get the most from your time in the float tank.
The book can be your guide as you enter previously unknown territory and navigate through the pitfalls and potential associated with sensory deprivation. By the time you have completed the book you will be ready and eager for your first session.
