Really, the only things that tie these books together in my mind is the time period they're set in and that they didn't unfold as I expected. Both stories ended up turning down paths I didn't expect. Now, some of this was how they were hyped to me and some has to do with their summaries. At any r...

This book hit a very good sweet spot for me and sucked me in, hook, line and sinker. I want to purchase my own copy to reread and the series is going to be high on my wishlist. This is a romance, a story that feels like a Jane Austen Novel but with added magic. A magic of illusion, glamour. This...

So this book is like a mix of most Jane Austen books only with magic as well. The magic is an every-day part of people's lives which is a little interesting but the magic really was background in their lives, only really to provide a way for the two potential love interests to become interested in J...

This is a book I enjoyed but grudgingly and against my better judgment. It seemed like the product of some serious fangirling of Jane Austen and a cute idea to weave in a fantastical element to an Austenesque landscape. There’s nothing wrong with that! Unfortunately, while I appreciated and even s...

As the author herself attests, this book draws on the best of the Jane Austen tradition, but places it in a unique imagining of a fantasical world. I raced from cover to cover, and can't wait for the sequel. Despite this being a fantasy novel, it reminds me quite strongly of Laurie R. King's Mary ...

Liked the writing style and the PNR aspects. The way the author blended them together was unlike anything I've read in terms of style. That being said, the characters gave me problems. Jane seemed a but dense when it came to her sister (from her feelings towards her to her relationship). Vincent was...

Pleasurable mash-up between the Regency and a genteel fantasy world filled with glamours. Not over-written and blessedly free of zombies.

Cross-posted on ReaderlingI haven't had a lot of luck with Austen retellings, not that I've given them much energy. I've given half-heart to some zombie stitching, with ok to terrible results; I have avoided smut recastings; I have thrown within pages various contemporary takes, but loved a couple t...

A quick, fun, inventive read. Very reminiscent of Jane Austen - but with subtle and interesting magic to add a bit of new allure. The end was a bit fast compared to the previous 260 pages, and was a bit too easily configured, but for all that, I raced through this, enjoying myself all the way.
