This is a book that I read and loved as a kid, and it still holds charm for me as an adult. One of my coworkers asked me which Sharon Creech I would do for Book Club, Walk Two Moons or Absolutely Normal Chaos and I immediately answered Bloomability. I don't know that it would actually make a great d...
I read and enjoyed this book as a kid. Sharon Creech crams a lot of story into one summer. One bit that bothered me this time was when Mary Lou's mother forbid her from using the words God, stupid and stuff. Because up until this point in the story, she hadn't really overused those words, but the re...
For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-CycleGood quick read. I found the story rather predictable, but I think it would suit young readers well. The story is a bit slow at times and filled with lots of unnecessary narration, but overall it had a good plot. The story gets a bit dark at times with ...
For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-CycleThis is an amazing, yet simple, book. At its base it's a story of Rosie cooking with her grandmother. But the book covers so much more than that.In the first part of the book, Rosie makes soup with her grandmother while talking about a fight with her b...
This is a chapter book made to look like a poetry journal of Jack a student in Mrs. Stretchberry's classroom. At first he doesn't like writing poetry for class. However, with encouragement he opens up more to poetry. As he opens up more to poetry he also opens up more about his pet dog that he used ...
Okay. so this is very engaging and a quick read. I loved the story, I loved the characters and felt we really got to feel what the main character and family was going through in their move to Maine. Told in verse, Reena and her family have to move to Maine when her parents lose their jobs. They ar...
This book is split into 2 parts. Each part has Rosie and her friend Bailey, who has been blind since the two of them were babies. Now, they are teenagers. In the first part of the story, it goes into the time period when it was discovered Bailey is blind. Rosie tells her point of view in how she...
Creech's novels in verse are hit or miss for me. This one was pretty good, though the story is predictable and the plot line of showing Zora moved too fast. I would have loved getting some of Luke's perspective in the book as well. Like most of Creech's novels, this one is very white.
I want to say I was 15 the first time I read this, but I'm not positive about that. I don't remember liking it that much, but I found it pretty enjoyable this time around. The mystery is obvious, but the story is still enjoyable. It made me cry (as many of Sharon Creech's books do).
